You stared at the talent show programme in shock, mentally screaming at yourself for ever auditioning in the first place.  If it wasn't for that idiotic American and his damned deal you never would have tried out in the first place.  It was stupid of you not to consider that even if he did audition, he wasn't necessarily going to get a spot in the show.  Maybe it was you being a foolish girl, or maybe it was the second part to the deal, the promise that America gave you if you were to follow through.  Along with promising to audition for the show and perform if chosen, he promised that if you tried out he would ask Britain about his feelings towards you.

But as you stared at the small booklet you began to question if it was even worth it, considering that the last time you performed in a school talent show you emptied your stomach's contents before you even got on stage to sing.  Then you shook your head playfully and a hint of a smile appeared on your lips.  Of course it was worth it if it had to do with the guy you'd been crushing on for the last two years, even if he WAS two grades higher than you.  Really though, who could not fall in love with someone so witty, kind and gorgeous?

Just thinking of Britain seemed to calm you down a bit and chase your pre-show jitters away, but sure enough they'd come back later right before you went on.  As the day of the show dragged on you sat in your guitar class next to your best friend America, staring off into space in the direction of a reasonably large Nirvana poster.  You were pulled back to reality when you felt a tiny stab.

"(_y/n_)?  Earth to (_y/n_)?"  America yelled, poking you in the ribs with his guitar pick.

You turned to the American slowly and held back a discontented sigh.

"What is it Al?"

"You were staring off into space again!  Still afraid that you're going to puke your guts out on stage tonight?"

You rolled your (_e/c _) eyes at him and put your hand to your stomach.
"I wasn't really until you brought it up!"

You looked down at your guitar and played part of "Good Riddance" by Green Day to get your mind off of things.  Shortly after, America tried to join you only to fail epically.

"Geez Al, we learned this song like…in eighth grade…"  You said to him, still plucking at the strings on your guitar.

"Well unlike you, I'm not in the intermediate section of the class.  You know I only take this to impress girls so stop giving me a hard time about it, okay?"
You laughed a little bit and punched him playfully in the arm.

"So for your song tonight, Austria's playing the piano for you?"

"Yeah, he thought it would be prettier with a piano accompaniment than acoustic guitar."

"I think it sounds cool either way.  The acoustic version seems newer, and with piano it sounds so classic!  But Austria would know what's best I guess, and I bet it's easier for you to just sing than sing AND play at the same time…"

You sighed and changed the subject.
"Here, let me show you how to play this first part.

Unfortunately the next few hours blew by just like that, and before you knew it you were standing behind the curtain waiting for your turn to perform.  It didn't help that the girl singing before you had an amazing voice and sang along perfectly.  It also didn't help that as part of the deal America got to select your song, and being the conceited 'hero' he chose the song "Holding Out For A Hero" by Bonnie Tyler.  As you hyperventilated backstage Austria came around to hold your shoulders and give you a pep talk.

"It will be alright, (_y/n_).  There is no need to be so anxious!  We have gone over the song many many times, and you sound wonderful so stop worrying so much!"
You relaxed a bit at his words then let out a deep breath.
"Thanks, Roderich.  I'll try my best."
"Good girl, now just remain calm and it will all be over before you know it."
You started to pace about backstage, your elegant purple gown puffing out around you.
"One more thing!"  Austria said before heading over to help pull the grand piano onto the stage.
"You look beautiful tonight so don't be so self-conscious!"

You blushed madly and scurried up to the edge of the back curtain and listened to the girl finishing her song.  Your heart began to race as the front curtain dropped and the girl motioned for you, Austria, and the guys toting the piano to get on stage.  You nearly face planted, tripping over your dress on your way there but managed to pick your self up and station yourself in front of the microphone stand before the curtain came up to reveal you in your beautiful new dress, with your long (_h/c_) hair falling down your shoulders in curls, and Austria in a suit seated at the gorgeous black grand piano.

You stared into the audience with a blank expression for a moment before Austria nodded to signal that he was going to start playing the piece.  You panicked, clutching onto the microphone stand for dear life as the intro part of the song played.  As you looked hurriedly into the crowd for something to focus on you heard a familiar voice stage whisper your name.  You whipped your head around to see America, seated next to a baffled Britain.  If you weren't terrified before you sure were then, staring into the dreamy green eyes.  Austria coughed awkwardly and you turned to him to notice that the intro was long over and that he had been playing some random improvised song that was close to the one you were supposed to be singing.

"(_y/n_)!"  Britain yelled from the audience causing everyone to turn to the British man in surprise.

"Don't worry, you're the most talented girl I've ever met.  You'll do just fine!"  He added, his handsome face turning pink.

You looked at him on the brink of tears then, pulling yourself together, nodded at Austria to go on into the song.  As he re-played a part of the intro you took a big breath and prepared to sing.

Where have all the good men gone
And where are the gods?
Where's the streetwise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?

Isn't there a white knight
Upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn
And dream of what I need

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
He's gotta be strong, he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be Fresh from the fight.
I need a hero
I'm Holding out for a hero till the morning light,
He's gotta Sure, He's gotta be soon, and he's gotta be larger than life, Larger than life.

You looked into the audience to see a proud America and admiring Britain, and it compelled you ton continue on singing with more confidence than before.

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasies
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me

Racing on the thunder
And rising with the heat
Isn't there a Superman
To sweep me off my feet?

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
He's gotta be strong, he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be Fresh from the fight.
I need a hero
I'm Holding out for a hero till the morning light,
He's gotta Sure, He's gotta be soon, and he's gotta be larger than life.

I pray the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I can swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me

Through the wind and then the chill and the rain
And the storm and the raging flood
Oh, his approach is like a fire in my blood
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
He's gotta be strong, he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the morning light
He's gotta be sure, he's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life, larger than life

You belted out the last note then stared wide eyed as the curtain dropped and the audience filled with applause and cheers.  You turned toward the Austrian, but to your surprise he was already on his way to you.  He grabbed you in a hug and pet your silky hair.

"You were magnificent, (_y/n_)."
You laughed quietly then smiled as you spotted America and Britain coming from the back entrance of the stage.

"You were awesome, man!"  America yelled energetically, pulling you into his arms and swinging you around.

You tripped over a cord on the stage and nearly feel but Britain caught you in expert time and gazed into your eyes lovingly.

"(_y/n_)?  Will you come outside with me for a moment?"

You nodded eagerly and followed him as he ran out the stage door and down the hallway to one of the many school exits.  That particular exit led to a beautiful gazebo with bright silvery Christmas lights strung all around and dashing white roses growing in the garden surrounding it.  Britain took your hand in his gently and pulled you into the gazebo.

"What is this place?  I've never seen it before…"

"It's a little garden of mine, I created it hoping that one day I'd be able to bring the girl I loved in here to dance."

You stared at him for a moment before he took your right hand in his and grasped your waist with his own right.  You gripped his shoulder firmly with your left and couldn't help but gaze into his eyes.

"And who is this girl that you love?"  You asked playfully but still a bit warily.
Instead of giving an answer Britain moved closer to you as you both swayed back and forth and leaned down, resting his forehead on yours.

"May I kiss you, (_y/n_)?"

"I would be honoured."  You whispered to him before allowing his lips to press down on yours softly.

After a moment Britain pulled away and stared at you.

"To answer your question, you're the girl that I dreamed of bringing here.  When I saw how beautiful you looked on stage and when I see how beautiful you look now I can't help but want to kiss you…"

"I feel the same way…"  You said quietly then closed your eyes and began to sing a part that you cut out of your song.

I'll meet a hero
And then we'll dance till the morning light
Dreaming, he will lead me
Held tight, tonight's the night
I do not own Britain from Hetalia or you! I hope you Enjoyed it~
